EV15L

Post by David Jørgensen »

Does anyone here have any experience with an Ev15l for pedal steel. I’ve found one for cheap in a closed back cab, ex(to be, I guess)-bass cab, so probably well played in.

I would be running a session 400 head or The Amp 100 through it.

How do these sound in comparison to jbl k120 or Jupiter lc50?

EV15L is a lead/vocal speaker, I had one in my Twin while waiting for my SRO15 to be rebuilt. Alone or paired with a JBL K130, in an open back cab really sounds sweet!

That’s all the excuse I need, Bill! How did you like it compared to the SRO?

I prefer the SRO, but that's just my ears, I think the EVM has higher power rating, but they're both comfortable with the Twin's 85 watts. I'm in the process of splitting the Twin, and have been playing the head through the JBL in it's cab, I think it's a bit brighter than the EVM, but also sounds really good! When I get the cab built for the EV, I hope I'm back where I started, just easier to move things.

Have used an EV15L for many years, they are a very nice sounding speaker. I would say more balanced than the JBLK120 which I think has to many highs (At least the one in my Music Man 50 has). It is very similar to the EV12L with a bit more bass response. It is a bit on the heavy side compared to the Neo speakers available.

I tend to keep the bass cranked and the treble all the way off with the jbl and Jupiter speakers, so quite excited to see what this 15” sounds like. The cab is closed back, but ported. Just need to solder a speaker cable and we’ll see how it sounds!

My EV's are all in open back cabinets. No idea how they sound in a closed cabinet. When you get it all working, please post your experience.

Thanks,
Robert

Years ago I built my wife a sealed EV cabinet for her bass, and have a few times plugged a guitar amp into it, but being a EVM15B bass speaker it likes low frequencies. (Never tried a steel guitar through it!)
